Conflicts

I have learned at social science class of my elementary school days about the United Nations, and I still remember that number of the member countries at that time was about 110. That number have increased to 192 now. Many countries have joined in the past 45 years. We can see that majority of such members are newly established countries with some exceptions.

Jesus told in Chapter 24 of Matthew's Gospel about the sighs of the end times. Especially, in vs 7 He said;
"For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places."

Careful observation of newly joined countries to the United Nation after 1990 will show us quite interesting facts.

In 1991, the Soviet Union (USSR) have collapsed and broken up into many number of countries. The collapse itself was caused by a political movement toward democracy called Perestroika. However, this movement stirred up nationalism of various races which had been under the rule of the Soviet Union and ultimately each race have established independent countries of its own.

First, three Baltic States, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania gained independence. People of each nation were mainly Estonian, Latovian and Lithuanian respectively.
Then, the independence of west Asian countries along the Caspian Sea, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyz, Tadzhikistan and Turkmenistan followed. Majority of the people of each of these countries was consisted of its own race.

Along with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the State of Yugoslavia in the Balkan Peninsula began to split up from 1991. Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia and Bosnia- Herzegovina attained independence at the first stage then Serbia and Montenegro became the independent countries. Kosobo declared independence this year. There was in the background of these independences a serious conflicts among the races.

In August of the same year, Georgian-Ossetian conflict has broken out. It was basically the racial conflict between the two races inhabiting the same area, Georgian and Osetin. However, in this case, there was in the background an another conflict. It was a conflict over economic interests between the Western Nations and Russia.

Through Georgia run a pipeline for crude oil, which connects world famous Baku oil field with Mediteranian and Black Sea area. The same pipeline is expected to transport in the future crude oil to be produced at Kashagan Field, huge oil field in the northern part of the Caspian Sea.

President Saakashvili of Georgia was known as a pro-American politician. He has studied law at Columbia and George Washington Univ. and one time had been working as a lawyer in US. Russia, to protect pro-Russian ossetic population, tried to contain pro-American Saakashvili government by attaking Georgia.

Conflicts among the races, which is told to be a sighn of end time are and will be increasing. We must carefully watch the development of such conflicts and at the same time, we must also carefully study the conflicts of economic interests among the nations and economic policies of each nation, which may finally invite the racial conflicts.
